From day to day we can observe the emergence of new trends. Many of them, unfortunately, bring far more harm than good. It has become popular to use toothpaste that has activated carbon in its composition. It should whiten teeth and take care of our smile. Does it do so?
Activated charcoal is a well-known diarrhea-fighting agent. Thanks to its properties, it is able to inhibit this bothersome ailment. It has the ability to absorb bacteria and toxins and remove them. It forms a protective layer on the mucous membrane. In cosmetics, coal is used to cleanse the face, but also in problems with dandruff or oily hair.
Activated charcoal, which is included in many toothpastes, is designed to absorb plaque on the teeth that is caused by eating and drinking many common products. These include coffee, tea and red wine. Activated charcoal does not have the properties to change the color of enamel, but it is capable of restoring it. It also does not help get rid of tartar.
In addition to activated carbon, which is designed to whiten teeth, activated carbon toothpastes have a number of different ingredients with antibacterial and restorative properties. These include fluoride, which is responsible for remineralizing enamel and protecting teeth from decay. Next to it is often xylitol. This is an ingredient that increases saliva production, which in effect provides natural protection for the enamel. In carbon toothpastes you can also find coconut oil, which promotes gum regeneration, and numerous plant extracts, which have soothing and antibacterial effects.
It is very important to determine whether carbon toothpaste actually whitens teeth. Unfortunately, the answer is not clear. Some believe that activated charcoal toothpaste is a great, inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to whiten teeth. Others, on the other hand, do not notice the effects of its use. Nor can this be confirmed by any studies, since no such studies exist.
This is another issue worth determining. Is it safe to use activated charcoal toothpaste? Some dentists advise their patients against using such products, as they believe that these toothpastes have abrasive and enamel-damaging properties. For this reason, such pastes should be approached with some caution. You can use them for a certain period of time, and then they should be discontinued in favor of other products. If you are thinking about permanent and effective teeth whitening – go to the dental office. There, the doctor will advise you on what treatment you should perform to benefit you.
