It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

Pumps are some of the most versatile types of shoes, as you can wear them with practically any outfit from casual to formal. And no matter how tall or dressy you want your pumps to be, you can find your perfect women’s pump heels in every style and heel height imaginable on today’s market! Yet, finding the right pair of pumps still remains a challenging task, especially if this is the first time you buy these high-heeled shoes. Here’s our guide on how to pick the perfect women’s pump heels for your style and what to look for when shopping for them!

Step 1: Break Down What You Want in a Pump

The first step is figuring out what you want in a pump. This can be tough because there are so many different factors involved. There are different heel heights, widths, materials, and colours to choose from. Below is a quick breakdown of what you should think about before deciding on a pair of shoes.

 1) What heel height do I need? -The best way to figure this out is by looking at your everyday outfits. If you’re always wearing flats or sneakers, then it’s likely that you’re going to need a low-height pump with an inch or two of heels. On the other hand, if you often wear high heels, then it might be time to invest in some higher heels like 2 pumps with 4 heels.

2) What colour do I want? -When trying to pick a colour for your new pumps, make sure that it matches your style and wardrobe as well as your skin tone.

3) What material should I buy my pumps?

Step 2: Consider Trends Within the Shape of the Pump

The two most common are pointed-toe pumps (looks like a narrow, stiletto heel) and round-toe pumps (the widest part of the shoe is at the ball of your foot). Pointed-toe pumps are classic and timeless. You can wear them with just about anything and they will never go out of style. Round-toe pumps are more fashion-forward and trendy. They have a less severe appearance, which makes them perfect for summer dresses or shorter skirts. Keep in mind that you should wear pointy-toe pumps if you’re taller than 5’8” and round-toe pumps if you’re between 5’6”-5’8”. If you’re much shorter than 5’6”, there is an increased risk of tripping when wearing either type of pump.

Step 3: Settle On The Right Size of Pump

If you’re not sure what size you wear, you can use a sizing chart. It is important that your shoes fit properly because they may pinch or rub and cause discomfort. To find your correct size, measure your foot with a measuring tape. Place one end of the measuring tape at the heel of your foot and place it on top of your toes. Take note of where the measurement ends in centimetres or inches. Compare this measurement to measurements provided by shoe brands and pick a pump that falls within this range. For example, if you measure 32cm (or 13 inches), then you should buy pumps that are no smaller than 8cm (or 3 1/4 inches).

Step 4: Add Some Extra Oomph with Heel Type

The fourth step in choosing a pump heel is figuring out what type of heel you want. The most common options are pointed, almond and round. Pointed heels give your legs a slimming effect and make you look taller, but they can be uncomfortable if worn for extended periods of time. Almond-shaped heels typically have higher arches which provide better support than other types of pumps but are not as popular because they can cause bunions. Round-shaped pumps are comfortable, versatile and perfect for both work and play occasions.
