More and more often humidifiers are appearing in homes. This small device has become a real hit in recent years. Why is it worth investing in this device and can it improve the quality of our sleep? Let’s check!

We currently live in times where houses or apartments are very airtight. Many of us do not remember about regular ventilation of rooms or do it too briefly. All this, especially in winter, makes the air dry. And a low level of humidity in rooms can cause many different ailments such as sore throat, dry skin, nose bleeds, coughing, chapped lips and poor sleep. There is also a reduction of mucous membranes in the nasal cavities, and this in turn can promote susceptibility to various infections and colds. That is why it is so important to invest in a good humidifier, which will regulate the level of air humidity in your house or apartment.

Humidifier – what is it?

The ideal air humidity ranges from 40% to 60%. It can be measured with a hygrometer but humidifiers often have a built-in hygrometer, so you do not have to buy two devices. The purpose of a humidifier is to increase air humidity in the rooms we live in. There are several types of humidifiers, the most popular are:

  • steam – a special container with water is connected to electricity, water is heated and evaporates. Such a device additionally heats the room. You should remember that the steaming water is hot, so you should place the device away from children;
  • ultrasound humidifier – the humidifier emits ultrasounds, which in turn break water molecules and create a mist (can be cool or warm);
  • central humidifier – the device is built in the house heating or air-conditioning system; it is the most expensive humidifier but allows you to regulate the level of humidity in the entire house or apartment
  • rotor humidifier – its operation consists in rotating disks working at a high speed, which create a cool mist;

Air humidifiers with an ionizer are a good solution. Such devices not only humidify the air, but also increase the amount of oxygen in the room.

Is a humidifier good for allergy sufferers?

Humidifiers are recommended for people prone to allergies. They can help with coughing, which often occurs when the air is too dry. However, it must be remembered that too high a level of humidity promotes the growth of bacteria, mould and mites and thus aggravates allergies even more. Therefore, you should ensure that the air humidity is between 40% and 60% at all times

Benefits of a humidifier for our skin

Winter is a time when our skin does not have it easy. We often apply lotions and oils to it less frequently as it is hidden under many layers of clothing for most of the day. In addition, there is dry air caused by the constant heating of radiators and tightly closed windows. This causes the skin’s lipid barrier to weaken, making it tight and chapped.

Using a humidifier regularly and controlling the humidity level will definitely help restore the natural functions of our skin and moisturize it. Some experts even believe that humidifiers can protect the skin from pollution. Aside from that, humidifiers can help relieve various skin symptoms such as psoriasis and rosacea.

Humidifier and sleep comfort

Adequate humidity makes sleep healthier and more profound. We do not suffer from coughing caused by the fact that the room is too dry. It will also be easier to fall asleep. Humidified air is better to breathe, so it is much better to rest in such a room. Some devices allow you to add fragrant oils, which can further improve our mood and well-being, and also promote relaxation.
