Under-eye bags are a common problem for many women. Find out what causes them and how to treat them
An adult needs seven to nine hours of sleep a day. Chronic sleep deprivation not only leads to the formation of dark circles under the eyes, but also serious health consequences.
Even by eating a healthy, strict diet and exercising regularly, you may not see the results of your new lifestyle through lack of regular sleep. Our bodies need rest to allow us to function properly each day. In addition to compromising your appearance, not getting enough sleep can negatively affect your concentration, relationships with others, or progress at work. It also contributes to premature skin aging and the production of cortisol, otherwise known as the stress hormone, which destroys collagen, a protein responsible for healthy hair and nails.
Bags under the eyes can be the result of enlarged blood vessels. Apply a cold compress to the dark areas to help them shrink and at the same time alleviate possible puffiness. Simply wrap a few ice cubes in a clean towel and apply it to your face. You can also use a regular teaspoon for this purpose, which you store in the refrigerator for a few hours beforehand.
Eczema, minor allergic reactions and dry skin problems can contribute to dark circles under the eyes. If the dark marks disappear every so often and reappear after exposure to a certain stimulus, eliminate it from your life. But if your irritation is caused by factors you can’t remedy – pollen in the summer, for example – make sure you moisturize properly.
Dermatologists advise applying cream after every face wash. Look for products that are appropriate for your skin. If you have combination skin, we recommend using two different creams designed for different tasks on specific areas of your face. The brand Skin79 has a range of products with moisturizing properties, including creams with aloe vera extract to nourish and soothe allergy-irritated skin.
In addition to cold compresses, you can also use tea extract compresses. Simply dip a towel in the cooled tea and place it on your face to soothe your skin and stimulate blood circulation. It’s important that you use a tea that contains caffeine, as this antioxidant is what helps fight the bags under your eyes.
Prolonged skin exposure to the sun can lead to increased production of melanin, the pigment that gives color to our skin and hair. Such changes can also happen around the eyes. This is when we need to start using a sunscreen with SPF. We should apply it to the face and neck area at least twenty minutes before leaving the house to ensure our skin is fully protected.
When all other methods have failed, it could be a sign that the cause of our problem lies in our genes. If your relatives also have bags under their eyes, you have to accept that they will accompany you for the rest of your life. Fortunately, there are a whole host of products on the market designed specifically for under-eye bags.
Makeup won’t help you combat the problem, but it will cover it up easily. After applying your foundation, place a few dots of concealer under your eye line, then blend with a beauty blender. Be sure not to rub the product into your skin, but rather to pat it on gently. This will make your face glow and the bags under your eyes will no longer be visible.
