It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

Concentration, or focusing your thoughts on one activity for a period of time, has a number of benefits. With this skill, you will learn faster, but also achieve better results with less energy and time. Additionally, your self-esteem and self-worth will increase. Check out what you can do to increase your concentration!

Environment

You can improve your ability to concentrate by adjusting your environment. Pay attention to several important factors, such as order, colors, lighting, noise, music, among others. First, make sure there are no distractions around you. Keep things neat and tidy, and try to remove anything you don’t need for studying if possible. Major distractions can include: phone, computer, radio, television, and noise. If you start watching a show on TV or hear Messenger while studying, your concentration will be distracted and you won’t be able to absorb knowledge effectively. Also, be aware of the colors around you. If you are surrounded by cold colors, they will have a calming effect on you and neutralize your excess energy. Warm colors, on the other hand, will improve your mood and add desire to work. Don’t forget about the lighting – gentle light will allow you to read comfortably and learn faster. While you study, you can listen to music, but you need to choose the right music because not every type will have a positive effect on your level of concentration. Music that is slow, quiet and pleasant to the ear should not distract you

An excellent example of music that improves concentration while studying is nature and classical music. Also remember to get enough oxygen in the room where you are studying. If there is not enough oxygen, you will get tired faster. You can study at any time of the day, but you should adjust the time to suit your abilities. Some people study best late at night, while others prefer mornings. No matter what time of day you choose to study, don’t study for too long as research shows that after 1.5 hours of studying your concentration drops dramatically. You should get the most productivity when you study for 30 minutes and take a 5 minute break. During this short rest do not use your phone. It will be more beneficial if you do some simple physical exercises or take a short walk in the fresh air during this time. Change your body position frequently while studying.

Motivation and good organisation of time

When you start studying, remember to set yourself a goal. It may be, for example, that you will study several subjects or one chapter on a given day. It is good to study systematically, as this way you will be able to absorb knowledge at an appropriate pace and you will remember the learned content much better. You will also be able to organize your time better, without leaving everything to the last minute. It can also be a great motivation to ask yourself what you will achieve if you learn the material. Maybe someday you will impress others with your knowledge, get a passing grade, or pass the semester. If you would like to motivate yourself even more, you can also think of some small reward that will motivate you to complete the task quickly.

What else can you do to improve your ability to concentrate?

In order to improve your ability to concentrate, it is a good idea to develop good habits and follow them every day. It is extremely important to eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Don’t forget about vegetables, fruits, fish and whole grain products. In good conscience, you can also indulge in a few cubes of dark chocolate – rich in magnesium, selenium and zinc – and nuts, which are great for memory and concentration. Remember that certain foods can make it difficult to focus and learn. Avoid foods that are hard to digest, snacks, and coffee, which provides short-term benefits. In addition to proper nutrition, make sure you get enough sleep and physical activity. Even a small amount of exercise will perfectly oxygenate your brain. Do not forget about a positive attitude and be happy even with small things. This will make it easier for you to concentrate on the things you are doing.
